The Big Green Heart of Burntisland
The Big Green Market thrives thanks to our incredible team of 70+ volunteers who generously donate their time, energy and skills to our monthly markets and Repair Cafe.
From sorting donations and creating displays to fixing broken items these dedicated individuals are the lifeblood of everything we do. Their commitment was recognised in January 2024 when we were honoured with the Burntisland Community Group of the Year Award.
Volunteering is a great way to make new friends and catch up with old ones, have a laugh and pick up a few bargains. Working with us is completely flexible, help whenever you can, it is always so appreciated.
To show our thanks, we shout everyone a coffee (using local vouchers) at each market and we throw a fabulous thank you Christmas party which is fast becoming THE invite of the year!

Current Opportunities to join Team Green
All shifts are flexible, many of the team do more than one shift, some can only manage an hour or two. Many hands make light work!

On Friday morning come and join the greenest gym in town and help us move boxes from the cellar to the hall!

This is where the magic begins, on Friday mornings from 8.30am onwards boxes are unpacked, clothes rails are filled, toys are laid out….all ready for the doors opening at noon.

This shift is great if you love chatting to our lovely customers and are happy to make sure everyone gets a bargain (without totally taking the mickey- admittedly the hagglers do give us a laugh). There’s usually a chance to sift through the stock towards the end of the shift and decide what needs to be moved on.

We have so much fun on Fridays, we do it all again the next day!

by 1pm on Saturdays we are FLAGGING and anyone coming to help to pack or lift boxes, doing a recycling run or even just washing the cups and sweeping the floor deserves and instant knighthood as far as we are concerned. Never does the ‘many hands make light work’ feel so real, with enough people we are usually done and dusted around 3pm, which is amazing!

Our ever generous community bring in donations constantly so the work of our backstage Cinderellas is vital to the smooth running of the markets. If you are not afraid to make quality control decisions, a naturally organised person or or can recognise the Dior from the dross, the Prada from the Primark (for our premium rails) then we’d love to grow our Sorting Team.

Are you good at fixing things? Sewing, electrics, woodwork for example? We’d love to hear from you.
Anyone happy to chat to waiting customers and make them a cuppa would also be a wonderful addition to the team.

If you enjoy listing lovely things on Vinted, eBay, Depop or platforms we’ve never even heard of, and would be interested in helping us to raise money from unsold items (we always like our shoppers to get first dibs) then we’d love to hear from you!
